DOMO Chemicals is a leading provider of high-performance polyamide (PA6) solutions operating an integrated production site in Leuna, Germany. In line with DOMO’s ambition to lead sustainability in its sector, the company is strengthening transparency around its environmental footprint and equipping customers with reliable, comparable information.
Quantis partnered with DOMO to deliver cradle-to-gate life cycle assessments (LCAs) and product carbon footprints (PCFs) across the integrated PA6 value chain, aligned with the Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline and ISO 14040/14044/67.

Challenge
Meeting rising customer and regulatory expectations requires LCA and PCF information that is both robust, comparable and consistently applied across a complex industrial operation. DOMO’s Leuna site integrates in its sites multiple production units, intermediates, utilities and supporting systems — meaning methodological consistency is critical. Ensuring alignment on system boundaries, allocation methods and data quality across interconnected units is essential for generating results customers can confidently compare.
Quantis was engaged to support DOMO in:
- Applying TfS and ISO standards consistently across a highly integrated chemical site
- Delivering results suitable for external communication and customer engagement
- Providing science-based insights to support strategic decision-making
Solutions
Quantis delivered a comprehensive, standards-aligned approach that ensured methodological rigor and transparency across the entire PA6 value chain.
1. Integrated LCA model
Quantis built a detailed LCA model of the Leuna site, covering all major PA6 and intermediate production steps as well as utilities and supporting systems. The team gathered recent primary activity data, verified mass and energy balances and conducted a structured assessment of data quality to ensure consistency across all units.
2. Standards-aligned climate reporting
Climate reporting was implemented in full compliance with the TfS PCF Guideline, clearly distinguishing fossil, biogenic and removal flows. This ensured that all PA6 and intermediate products followed a uniform methodological approach.
3. Product carbon footprints
Quantis calculated PCFs for each output using an attributional LCA approach, recognized background datasets and the EF method — enabling consistent, comparable results across the integrated value chain.
4. Sensitivity and scenario analysis
Targeted analyses explored how key parameters — including energy sourcing, raw-material footprints and allocation assumptions — can materially influence results. These analyses strengthen future consistency by showing how methodological decisions shape comparability over time.
5. Independent critical review
The study underwent external critical review, confirming conformity with ISO 14040/44 standards and the TfS PCF Guideline. This validation ensures DOMO can use the results confidently in customer communication and engagement.
“Reliable, comparable product footprint data is becoming essential across the value chain. Quantis helped us build that foundation with a level of rigor that supports transparent collaboration with customers and suppliers.”
Thomas Bollen, Sustainability Director, Domo Chemicals
Results
DOMO now has a consistent, standards-aligned LCA and PCF dataset for PA6 and key intermediates — providing a reliable foundation for transparent customer communication, scope 3 engagement and regulatory reporting.
Key outcomes:
- Hotspot clarity: Upstream raw materials and energy supply identified as primary climate drivers, with on-site utilities contributing less but remaining relevant.
- Evidence-based decarbonization levers: Scenario work quantifies how energy choices, supplier footprints and allocation methods impact results.
- Stronger customer and supplier engagement: Reliable, comparable data supports scope 3 discussions and regulatory reporting.
- Embedded decision support: LCA and PCF insights can now inform strategic choices across the PA6 value chain.
