This program coordinates and facilitates international climate research to develop, share and apply the climate knowledge that contributes to societal well-being. Its research aims to predict the near-term evolution of the climate system and understand its long-term response. Research sponsored by the WCRP is directly applied to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
