World Water Week

Stockholm, Sweden • 20 Aug 2023 - 24 Aug 2023

World Water Week is the leading conference on global water issues, held every year since 1991. This year, it brought together over 4500 participants from government, civil society, NGOs, companies, start-ups, and media from almost every country of the world.

World Water Week 2023 is focused on innovation at a time of unprecedented challenges. The theme Seeds of Change: Innovative Solutions for a Water-Wise World invites us to rethink how we manage water. Which ideas, innovations, and governance systems will we need in a more unstable and water scarce world?

+ SESSION: A company’s step by step approach to water strategy design
Thursday, August 23

To actively practice meaningful water stewardship, Tetra Pak joined forces with Quantis to establish a foundation for a water-centric strategy and a practical plan of action that would more effectively harmonize with the company’s broader vision of corporate sustainability. Quantis’s work granted a comprehensive understanding of Tetra Pak’s water impacts and dependencies and the risks associated with water throughout the company’s entire value chain, and used these insights to build a holistic water strategy aimed at contributing to a water-secure world.

+ SESSION: Which tools to use, when and how, for businesses on their water journey- Freshwater Accountability Navigator
Thursday, August 24, 09:00 – 10:30

The Freshwater Accountability Navigator (FAN) is an interactive tool developed by WBCSD and Quantis (to be launched in Q4 2023). It will show companies which water-related tools and frameworks to use when assessing water-related impacts and dependencies, setting targets, taking water-related action and disclosing this action.

This session is aimed at the private sector, especially industries that use significant amounts of freshwater in their own operations or supply chains. It sets out to encourage companies to engage and learn how they can strengthen their delivery on freshwater commitments and engage a wider group of stakeholders – government, civil society and investors – to create a common understanding of what ‘good’ corporate accountability for freshwater and sound water stewardship look like.

Our goal is that the audience leaves with:

  • An understanding of what the FAN is, and the business case for launching this initiative, and challenges it addresses,
  • An understanding of how they can engage with the FAN, and its benefits,
  • An overview of existing freshwater-related frameworks.
