Challenge
Headquartered in London, Manzanita Capital is a private equity fund specializing in luxury and premium niche beauty companies. Recognizing the increasing importance of sustainability within the cosmetics industry, the company sought a strategic partner to help shape their sustainability framework. Having successfully collaborated with Quantis in the past and trusting our expertise, they ultimately chose us to guide them in this new project.
Quantis supported Manzanita to create a framework that would not only align with its corporate vision but also resonate with its portfolio companies – Diptyque, Malin+Goetz, SpaceNK, and Susanne Kaufmann. The framework needed to be adaptable to each company’s unique identity and operations while ensuring alignment with Manzanita’s overarching goals.

Solutions
To address the challenge and create the framework, Quantis first helped the company to define their sustainability ambition and then to transform it into a tangible framework. The project utilized a 4-step process:
- Benchmark the company’s sustainability efforts against industry peers
- Set priorities and identify focus areas that would form the foundation of the framework, through a collaborative workshop involving portfolio companies of Manzanita
- Create a comprehensive ‘beauty matrix’ covering the entire product lifecycle, incorporating varying levels of sustainability ambition
- Develop Manzanita’s sustainability framework utilizing the agreed-upon pillars and ambition levels. The framework provides the necessary structure and objectives to support existing and future portfolio companies
Results
The collaboration between Manzanita Capital and Quantis yielded a robust sustainability framework tailored to the unique needs of each portfolio company. By aligning with Manzanita’s overarching vision and industry best practices, the framework provided a clear roadmap for implementing sustainable initiatives.
With a solid foundation in place, Manzanita and its portfolio companies – Diptyque, Malin+Goetz, SpaceNK, and Susanne Kaufmann – and new portfolio companies are now well-positioned to lead the way in driving sustainability within the premium beauty sector, ensuring long-term environmental impact while driving business success.
“Through our collaboration with Quantis, we've crafted a bespoke framework that not only reflects our values but also empowers each of our brands to continue improving their environmental impact across the value chain."
